Parent Fields
The Parent Fields lists determine the primary (parent) information fields that make up the detail display. The information that can be displayed is extracted from specific bibliographic and item tags in the ILS database. Examples of parent fields include Author, Publication Date, and Language.
The selection of parent fields for a detail display is required. If you do not select at least one parent field, you cannot successfully finish creating or editing the Detail Display. If the Select Fields for a Detail Display page includes Child Fields, Portfolio will let you advance to the Choose Detail Display Options page without notifying you to select a Parent Field; however, you will not be able to select a Sort Field. In that case, return to the Select Fields for a Detail Display page and select at least one parent field.
Available
Displays the parent information fields that are configured for the associated search target and can be selected for the detail display.
You can select or multiselect one or more parent fields and then choose the Select button, or you can double-click individual parent fields to move them to the Selected list under Parent Fields.
Selected
Displays a list of parent information fields that have been selected for the detail display.
You can select or multiselect one or more parent fields and then click Remove, or you can double-click individual parent fields to move them to the Available list under Parent Fields. Select a parent field and use the arrow buttons to move it up or down in the list.
The order in which the parent fields are listed in the Selected list is the default order in which the information fields will appear in the detail display.
To add, remove, or reorder information fields in the list, choose the information field, and then use these buttons:
Option | Description |
---|---|
Select
|
Moves the selected parent field from the Available list to the Selected list. |
Remove
|

Move Up
|
Moves the selected parent field up one position in the Selected list. |
Move Down
|
Moves the selected parent field down one position in the Selected list. |
Note: These buttons are context-sensitive based on which parent field(s) you choose. For example, if you select a field from the Available list under Parent Fields, the Remove, Move Up, and Move Down options are disabled because those commands are not available for available parent fields. If you select a field from the Selected list under Parent Fields, the Remove, Move Up, and Move Down options are enabled because those commands are available for selected parent fields.
Holding Child Fields
The Holding Child Fields lists determine the secondary (child) information fields for serials holdings. When there is data for the item, the Holdings list appears as an accordion section in the detail display. The information that can be displayed is extracted from specific bibliographic and item tags in the ILS database. Examples of holding child fields include Library, Shelf Location, and Holding Information, (volume, series, issue, and so forth depending on the MARC record content).
The selection of holding child fields for a detail display is optional.
